With the help of the State Social Welfare Board, we started the Garment-Making Unit in 1984. This unit offers vocational training to our girls as well girls from surrounding villages. It is staffed by two Master tailors who instruct our girls. The training period lasts for 6 months, after which wages may be earned. All the clothing needs of the residents of MBKG Pannai are met here. This includes school uniforms as well as the new clothes that the children receive for their birthdays, at Diwali and at Christmas. We also get regular orders from CMC Hospital, and some of our girls can be seen stitching hospital gowns, scrubs and shoe covers! These young women then continue on to tailoring courses outside of Pannai and are given a sewing machine upon their completion.
